Our Mapy.cz is growing and gradually transitioning to Mapy.com. Such a small change—just two letters—so why write an article about it? It surely won’t affect how you use the app. Or will it? 🙂
Why are we doing this?
We want to significantly improve our maps worldwide, making them an even better guide for your travels and unforgettable adventures. Our goal is simple: to give you an even better product.
Imagine you’re planning a trip to Italy. With this change, our app will now provide you with more detailed hiking trails, help you find the best public transport connections from Fiumicino Airport to your hotel, recommend highly rated restaurants, show tips from local Italian users, and even display real-time traffic updates.
To make this happen, we need to reach millions of users around the world. We want people abroad to actively use our app and become part of the Mapy.com community, just like you. The more users, the better the maps! Users from different countries will help improve the app by using navigation, adding new places, updating information, uploading photos, and reviewing cafés, restaurants or hotels.
Why the name Mapy.com?
We want our brand to stay as familiar as possible for our existing users while also being easily recognizable worldwide. That’s why we chose “Mapy.com”—a simple name with an international domain, yet still close to what you’ve known for over 25 years.
Many of you have told us that our maps are a hidden gem—something you proudly recommend to people no matter where you are in the world. Now, it’s time to take them to a global scale. Like a talented hockey player from a small European country making it to the NHL or an exceptional singer performing at Carnegie Hall.
What changes for you?
Nothing changes—your app will continue to work just as it always has. We intentionally chose a minimal adjustment, one you might not even notice. It’s just two letters, but they represent a huge opportunity and improvements for all of us.
In the future, you’ll start seeing this updated name in our mobile app, on our website, and in app stores.
Exciting updates coming your way
We recently expanded our navigation with real-time traffic updates to Slovakia, Poland, and Austria. Now, we’re working on similar improvements for your travels through Germany, Slovenia, Hungary, and Italy.
New users in these countries will help us gather valuable traffic data—including congestion, accidents, road closures, and even police speed checks—making navigation even more accurate and reliable for everyone.
We’re also improving how you manage offline maps. Soon, you’ll be able to download individual regions or entire countries directly from the map.
And don’t worry—you can still download one country for free, including all its regions. Plus, you’ll be able to switch your selected country anytime to match your travel plans.
New features in the premium version
A huge thank you to everyone supporting us by subscribing to Mapy Premium! Thanks to you, we’re rolling out the first new features, and we’re working hard on even more.
Now, you can easily plan routes for:
Running
Gravel cycling
Scooters
Trips with a sport stroller
Hiking via ferrata routes
And that’s not all! Very soon, we’ll introduce the first preview of our Wear OS app for smartwatches. You’ll be able to record your route with Tracker—without even needing your phone in your pocket.
Thank you for being part of this exciting journey toward better maps. Plan an even better vacation yet with Mapy.com this year!
A year ago, we asked for your support as we launched the very first premium version of Mapy.com. So how did it go? Not only did we deliver everything we promised, we’ve added even more. And that’s mostly thanks to you!
Try location sharing. You can share your location temporarily or permanently, one-way or mutually. We recommend it for children, hikers, and even a lost phone.
The Nearby Trips feature will prepare the ideal loop for you — now with all the modes known from the premium route planner. Choose a route for running, a sports stroller, gravel biking, or a kick scooter.
