Seznam.cz concluded an agreement on long-term cooperation with the Netherlands company Cyclomedia which is the world leader in the field of collecting and processing the road network image data. Thus, the Czech internet No. 1 will start offering the panoramic views in the best possible quality already in the summer, in particular not only in the application Mapy.cz but also within other services.
Robert Drozda, Director of Services Division of Seznam.cz says: “We are very pleased that we will be able to present our users with the data in the best available quality,” and he adds that imagery will start in May and users may look forward to the first results already in the summer.
Wessel van Hoek, Sales Director Northern Europe and Emerging markets of Cyclomedia says: “Cyclomedia is proud that Seznam.cz has chosen Cyclomedia as supplier of high resolution imagery and accurate 3D ground level geospatial data of Czech Republic. The technology of the company Cyclomedia offers good quality and geographically accurate spherical photographs of the public areas which Seznam.cz will newly start using not only in the application Mapy.cz, but also in other services, such as Firmy.cz or Sreality.cz. Jan Kunz, Product Manager of Mapy.cz specifies: “We will display better quality panoramic photographs, for example in the case of profiles of entities registered in the catalogue Firmy.cz or for showing the panorama of areas around the real estate on the portal Sreality.cz”.
The fleet of Cyclomedia vehicles equipped with camera system and other sensors will photograph the territory of the entire Czech Republic. “We will acquire photographs and data about one third of the road network on our territory and over twenty largest cities already this year,” adds Kunz. Seznam will use the image data also for the further improvement of navigation, including traffic information.

The service Mapy.cz provides its users with the current traffic information and enables them to search for attractive places in their vicinity, provides tips for interesting trips, both by foot, bicycle or car. Recommending the nearest restaurants, hotels or public transport stops is a matter of course. Mapy.cz is used via computer or mobile phone by 750 thousand people every day.
